Joining the Workforce Out of High School

You always have the option to get a job right out of high school. Some jobs don’t require a post-secondary education, but most employers seek candidates with experience or an education. Getting an education shows employers that you are serious about your new career and ready to start working with limited on-the-job training.

When you start job hunting, you may notice that most entry-level jobs require some work experience. But how can you get the experience for an entry-level job if you can’t start working an entry-level job? That is where education comes in.

Trade School vs 4-Year College: What is the Difference?

Don’t have the money or time to travel? Want to start a career and not just a job? You can choose between a 4-year college and a trade school. So, what is the difference?

Applying to a 4-Year College

The traditional route for most high school graduates involves applying to a 4-year college or attending a community college and then transferring to a university to complete a degree program. Americans have less confidence in a 4-year degree now than in 2015, 36% and 57% respectively1. Plus, starting a career at a 4-year college costs many more multiples now than inflation has risen over the last few decades.1

While attending a 4-year college is an option, you may want to start your career quickly. Consider a trade school like Tulsa Welding School (TWS) if this sounds like you.

Attending a Trade School

Did you know that there are going to be 1.9 million manufacturing jobs unfilled in the coming years1? Plus. 30% of electricians are aged 50 to 70 and are close to retirement1. With so many trade professionals retiring, there is a demand for electricians, HVAC technicians, and welders.

The good news is that Tulsa Welding School offers many trade programs that can be completed in months rather than years. AT TWS, you will learn an in-demand trade and start working within 6 to 7 months. We offer HVAC Technician, Electrician, and Welder programs that can prepare you to begin working as an apprentice. Once you complete your education and apprenticeship, you can become a licensed trade professional and enjoy a life-long career. Then, the sky’s the limit.
