Did you know that Tulsa Welding School & Technology Center has a Houston campus? That’s right. We offer a Professional Welding program that prepares you for a job working in the Houston area. There are two programs offered at our Houston campus. They include:

Professional Welder

This 7-month program is an introductory welding course that allows you to utilize interactive workshop courses and welding booths to teach you the proper welding techniques used at companies in the Houston area. During this program, you are trained in structural, fluxcore, and pipe welding. At the end of this program, you are prepared to take the certification exam offered by the American Welding Society1. The courses offered in this Professional Welding program include:

Welding Fundamentals – a review of welding and the crucial skills needed to start a welding career.

GMAW/FCAW Processes – a class that prepares you to set up and operate GMAW/FCAW welding equipment and the preparation of pipe for the welding process.

Structural Welding – an introduction to basic destructive weld testing techniques, quality welds to achieve maximum strength and integrity, and basic principles of metallurgy.

Basic Pipe Welding – a review of the fundamentals of basic pipe welding using SMAW and GTAW welding processes.

Advanced Pipe Welding – an advanced review of SMAW and GTAW welding processes. Plus, this class includes a review of electrical safety guidelines and prevention of electrical shock.

Welding Capstone – an opportunity for you to put your welding skills to the test and transition from the classroom to the field.

Welding Specialist with Pipefitting

This 9 ½ month welding program offered at the Houston campus prepares you for a career in welding with classes that focus on structural welding, basic and advanced pipefitting, thin alloy welding and steamfitting.

Structural Welding – the process of creating a weld with different component materials to build a welded structure like a building or bridge. The most common type of structural welding technique is gas metal arc welding (GMAW).

Pipefitter– a welding professional that designs, installs, and repairs mechanical pipe systems. This includes piping systems that transport gas and liquid substances using hydraulic and industrial infrastructure. Pipefitters work in refineries and factories in the Houston area.

Thin Alloy Welding – the best type of welding for thin alloy is TIG welding. TIG stands for Tungsten Inert Gas welding and is a good technique to that you will learn during the Welding Specialist with Pipefitting program.

Steamfitting –the installation and maintenance of piping systems that carry water or steam. Steamfitters specialize in pipes that are under high pressure.
